Hub and Academy Terms & Conditions

Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy are provided by Cognite AS (“Cognite”) as a place for discussion and education on your Cognite products and services. The terms and conditions below apply to all access and use of Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy (the “Hub & Academy Terms”). By clicking consent, you (referred to as “you” or the “User”) acknowledge and accept the at all times current Hub & Academy Terms.
Cognite reserves the right to change these Hub & Academy Terms at its sole discretion.
1. General guidelines
Stay courteous. Everyone wants to have a positive experience on Cognite Hub - so make sure that you are not detracting from anyone else's experience. Your opinions are always welcome, but personal attacks and harassment on Cognite Hub is not acceptable.
Keep it spam-free. Cognite Hub is a professional community, not intended for the promotion of third-party services, products, websites, or organizations. Please refrain from posting content that would constitute advertising, junk mail, spam, chain letters, or any other form of unauthorized solicitation.
2. Access and user account
2.1 Creating your account
When creating your user account in Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy, you agree to provide true, accurate and complete information about yourself. For any questions related to your user account, please contact us at hub@cognite.com.2.2 Access credentials
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password, and for all activities (whether by you or by others) that occur under your password or user account. You may not use a third party’s user account, username or password at any time, and you will not allow anyone to access or use Cognite Hub from your user account.2.3 Access to "By Invitation Only" or other secured areas
You may request to access private groups on Cognite Hub by clicking on “request to join". Unauthorized access to private groups is a breach of these Hub & Academy Terms.2.4 Unauthorized access
You may be held liable for any losses incurred by Cognite, our affiliates, officers, directors, employees, consultants, agents, and representatives due to someone else’s use of your account or password.
3. Privacy and confidentiality
3.1 General
You must register to use Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy, and you should only register one account. Cognite’s Privacy Policy contains guidelines on how Cognite collects, uses, and protects personal data. You can remain anonymous by choosing a username that does not identify you. However, please note that your registered personal details will be the personal details that show up on your certificate when you complete a course in Cognite Academy.If you are a Cognite customer, you must ensure that your registration and contribution to Cognite Hub are not in breach of any company policy or confidentiality obligation.
Moderator actions and the contents of private exchanges with moderators, staff members and administrators should not be shared or discussed on the public forums. Such material will be removed by moderators. If you have questions or comments regarding moderator actions, contact the forum moderators through private message or by sending an email to Hub@cognite.com.
3.2 Cognite Academy
If you are a Cognite customer or partner (or hired by one), Cognite may share information related to your course progression in Cognite Academy with your employer, as well as your grade and whether you have completed any of our modules. Cognite acts as a data processor when we share this information.Please contact your relevant company representative if you would like to opt-out or have any questions related to the information Cognite shares as data processor.
Any data created or ingested by you during the course in Cognite Academy is visible to all other Users of Cognite Academy. Please consult with your company representative before uploading any data as part of your data training of CDF.
4. Limited license
Cognite hereby authorizes you to copy materials and content published by Cognite on Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy solely for non-commercial use within your organization in support of Cognite’s products. No other use of the information is authorized. In consideration of this authorization, you agree that any copy of these materials shall retain all copyright and other proprietary notices in the same form and manner as on the original.Except as specified above, nothing contained herein shall be construed as conferring by implication, or otherwise, any license, transfer, or right under any patent, trademark, copyright, or any other intellectual property right of Cognite or any third party.
Users are not permitted to modify, distribute, publish, transmit, or create derivative works of any material found on Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy for any public or commercial purposes. Content included on Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy, and otherwise provided by or on behalf of Cognite (including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, images, and forum posts), is the exclusive property of Cognite or its third-party licensors.
Users are not permitted to use trademarks, logos, and service marks displayed within Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy without the prior written consent of Cognite or applicable third party. "Cognite" and all Cognite product names are trademarks owned by Cognite.
5. Links to third-party sites
Cognite Hub may contain links to third-party sites. Accessing any internet site linked on Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy is at the user's own risk and Cognite is not responsible for the accuracy or reliability of any information, data, opinions, advice, or statements made on these sites. Cognite provides these links merely as a convenience and the inclusion of such links does not imply an endorsement.You may not post a link on Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy that directs users to any content or information that would constitute a violation of these Hub & Academy Terms.
6. Academy training
6.1 Certificates
After completing certain courses in Cognite Academy and earning a passing grade in the assessment, you are granted a certificate of completion and/or a badge on your Cognite Hub profile. These certificates are issued by Cognite Academy and can be shared on LinkedIn and downloaded as PDF. Cognite Academy is not connected to an official accreditation body.6.2 Use of CDF projects
Any use of CDF projects as part of a Cognite Academy course is subject to Cognite’s Master Subscription Agreement available here: https://www.cognite.com/en/legal/generalterms, or other separate terms and conditions applicable for your company’s use of CDF as agreed with Cognite. Using the Academy environment for any other purposes than learning is a breach of these Hub & Academy Terms.Cognite Academy is not a sandbox environment, you are only allowed to use CDF projects to follow the course instructions.
For the avoidance of doubt, Cognite cannot guarantee that any data or activity that is not connected to the course activity will remain in the CDF project.
6.3 Training Credits in Cognite Academy
Training credits are credits that can be used by a User to purchase certain on-demand training courses in Cognite Academy that are not available as free content (“Training Credits”).6.4 Validity of Training Credits
The User authorized in Cognite Academy to distribute Training Credits of a company may only distribute Training Credits to that company’s employees.Unless otherwise agreed, Training Credits expire after one year, such that Training Credits purchased from Cognite expire twelve (12) months after the purchase, and Training Credits granted by Cognite expire twelve (12) months after the grant date.
If a Training Credits grant grants a number of Training Credits “per year”, the Training Credits for the first year expire twelve (12) months after the grant date, at which time the Training Credits for year 2 are activated. The same principle shall apply for each subsequent year during the grant period (as further specified in the grant). Unused Training Credits in a year will not roll over to the next year.
6.5 Registration for customized events
You can request a customized event (including customer-specific instructor-led training) by following the instructions in Cognite Academy. Requests for customized events shall not be binding on Cognite until Cognite has confirmed the event in writing, and 50% of the payment in Training Credits is received, processed, and verified by Cognite. Cognite reserves the right to reject any requests for customized events at its sole discretion.This section 6.5 shall also apply if the User requests a customized event by alternative means, e.g. in a virtual meeting or per email.
6.6 Fees and payment
Payment of fees for training courses in Cognite Academy is made with Training Credits, and the fees include the provision of course material and documentation. All fees are exclusive of value-added tax, which shall be payable in addition to the stated fees if applicable. Charges for any additional fees, such as travel and subsistence, will be invoiced separately and paid within thirty (30) days from receipt of correct invoice, and cannot be settled with Training Credits.Cognite reserves the right to revise the fees for training courses at any time at its sole discretion.
Fees for on-demand training courses, open instructor-led training courses, and other non-customized events shall be settled upon registering for the course. Fees for customized events shall be settled 50% upon booking and 50% before the start of the course. If full payment has not been settled prior to the start of a course, Cognite reserves the right to refuse access to the course.
User shall cover any costs it incurs in connection with attending the course, including but not limited to its travel and accommodation costs.
If the User requests a customized event outside of Cognite’s office locations, the User shall cover travel and accommodation costs incurred by Cognite in connection with the customized event.
6.7 Cancellation and transfers by Users
Non-customized events. Registrations for on-demand training courses, open instructor-led training, and other non-customized events are non-cancellable and non-refundable unless otherwise set out in the Hub & Academy Terms or agreed to in writing by Cognite.The User may change the date of an open instructor-led training course by selecting another date in Cognite Academy if available, or transfer such course registration to another employee within the same company as the User by sending a request per email to Cognite Academy at least one (1) business day prior to the date of the course.
Customized events. The User may cancel its registration for a customized event by providing Cognite Academy with a minimum of fifteen (15) business days prior written notice. Cognite will not refund any monetary amounts, but the User shall be entitled to receive Training Credits equivalent to the same amount spent to register for the event if cancellation is notified as set out above. Such Training credits must be used within the period of validity of the original Training Credits spent to register for the event and may only be used in connection with courses organized by Cognite Academy.
User may substitute an alternative attendee to the initial one, provided that Cognite consents to the transfer in writing at least ten (10) business days prior to the event date. Cognite may at its sole discretion accept any transfer requests received after such date.
The User may transfer an attendee to another scheduled date for the same training course provided that Cognite consents to the transfer in writing at least fifteen (15) business days prior to the initially registered event date. Cognite may at its sole discretion accept any transfer requests received after such date.
6.8 Cancellation and modifications by Cognite
Cognite reserves the right at any time and for any reason, to cancel, reschedule or rearrange the date allocated for any training course, in which case the registered participants can select another date to participate in the training course in Cognite Academy. If no other dates are available for that training course, or the User is not able to attend the course on the alternative date(s), Cognite will provide a refund of the Training Credits to the User and there will be no further liability upon Cognite.The same shall apply if, at the commencement of the training course, less than five (5) participants have joined the course, in which case Cognite can choose to cancel the course as set out above or delay the start of the course with a reasonable time period to enable more participants to join.
Cognite Academy reserves the right, in limited instances, to change the format of delivery of the training course whilst ensuring that the training material is in line with the originally planned event.
7. Violations of the Hub & Academy Terms
You shall promptly notify Cognite of any suspected or actual violation of the Hub & Academy Terms and will cooperate diligently with Cognite to address the suspected violation. Violations are reported through the ‘Report Inappropriate Content’ feature in Cognite Hub, or by sending an email to hub@cognite.com.Cognite reserves the right to refuse to grant you a user account or revoke or suspend your existing user account, if we have reasonable suspicion that you are impersonating someone else, that your activities are illegal or in breach of these Hub & Academy Terms.
Cognite may take any action it deems necessary in its sole discretion to support the Hub & Academy Terms and to ensure that content on Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy does not violate applicable laws. Such actions may include editing or deleting material, and temporary or permanent banning of individual users. Cognite Hub is supervised by a number of moderators who ensure that users follow the Hub & Academy Terms.
8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
You acknowledge that you are using Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy at your own, sole risk. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable laws, Cognite Hub and Cognite Academy are provided on an “as is,” “with all faults,” and “as available” basis without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise including but not limited to those of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability, non-infringement, or any other warranty, condition, guarantee or representation, whether oral, in writing or in electronic form.You are advised to safeguard your data, to use caution, and not to rely in any way on the correct functioning or performance of Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy and/or accompanying materials.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cognite and its affiliates shall not be liable toward you or other users of Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy, or any third party for any loss or damages, whether direct or indirect, under or in connection with the access to or use of Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy, whether in tort, contract, or otherwise.
Any liability not efficiently disclaimed by the foregoing, shall be limited to a maximum amount of NOK 100,000. This limitation of liability shall be cumulative and not per incident.
9. Governing law and legal venue
Any dispute arising out of or in connection with the Hub & Academy Terms or access to or use of Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy shall be exclusively governed by and construed in accordance with Norwegian law, without giving effect to any choice or conflict of law provisions of any jurisdiction.Any claims or disputes arising out of or in connection with the Hub & Academy Terms or access to or use of Cognite Hub or Cognite Academy shall be finally settled by arbitration in Oslo, Norway, in accordance with the Arbitration Rules of the Oslo Chamber of Commerce (the “OCC Rules”). The number of arbitrators is to be determined in accordance with the OCC Rules. The arbitration language shall be English. The arbitration proceedings and the arbitration award shall be confidential.
