Cognite cookie policy
Cookies and Similar Technologies Policy
In order to identify you and/or your device(s), Cognite utilizes cookies and other similar technologies (such as web beacons, pixels, ad tags, and device identifiers) on the website. This enables us to make improvements to our website and gives you the best browsing experience possible.
See the section below for more information on the cookies and related technologies that we and our third-party partners use, the reasons why we use them, and how to turn them off.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that is downloaded to your device (computer, tablet and/or mobile devices) when you visit our websites or encounter our advertisements elsewhere on the internet. Cookies contain unique identifiers known as cookie IDs. A cookie ID has a unique string of character that enables websites and servers to recognise and connect with the specific internet browser where the cookie is saved. Each browser has its own cookie ID, therefore, websites and servers are able to distinguish between different browsers. As a result, when you visit a website multiple times using the same browser, the website can recognize your browser and adjust its services or contents based on your past interactions and preferences. Cookies allows our websites to optimize the information and offers presented on our website to suit your preference, and provide a more personalized and tailored experience to users.
Local storage of cookies involves storing various types of data locally on your device through your web browser. Such locally stored data can, for example, contain user preferences, information about how you have browsed our websites, the browser you are using, the advertisements you have been shown, and similar behaviors on websites with which we collaborate.
Our cookies and similar technologies serve various purposes. They are either essential for the operation of our services, give you extra functionalities, aid in enhancing our performance, or enable us to provide relevant and targeted ads.
We use cookies and similar technologies that only remain on your device for as long as you keep your browser active (session), and cookies and similar technologies that remain on your device for a longer period (persistent). You have the option to block, delete, or disable these cookies if your device permits it. You can manage your cookies and your cookie preferences in your browser or device settings.
Third party service providers
We partner with third party service providers (“authorized service providers”) to assist us in multiple facets of our business operations and aid us in delivering various services on our platforms. These authorized service providers are authorized to place third-party cookies, web beacons or similar technologies on your devices. Thus, they may deploy cookies on your device through our platform (third-party cookies) and gather information through cookies on our sites, platforms, applications and tools with our permission.
However, these authorized service providers are strictly prohibited from collecting any of your personal information for their own purposes within our sites or services. These authorized service providers are bound by confidentiality agreements and other legal restrictions regarding their use or collection of personal information. Please note that third party cookies are covered by the third-parties’ privacy policy.
Below is a list of third-party providers associated with the Cognite website, applications, and other platforms:
'6sense', 'Adobe', 'Albacross Nordic AB', 'Bing', 'Cloudflare', 'DoubleClick (owned by Google)', 'Facebook Inc.', 'Google Adsense', 'Google Analytics', 'Google Inc.', 'Hotjar Ltd.', 'Hubspot', 'LinkedIn', 'Microsoft', 'Microsoft / Bing', 'Openli by Legal Monster ApS', 'Outbrain', 'Reddit', 'Spotify', 'Twitter', 'Youtube', 'YouTube', 'Zoom'
By visiting our website - www.cognite.com, you consent to us or any authorized service provider placing cookies in your browser.
Types of cookies
There are several types of cookies:
Cookie based on storage:
- Session cookies: These contain only data from your current visit. They are temporary, expire at the end of your browser session and allow us to link your actions during that particular browser session. Once the browser window closes, all session cookies are removed from the device.
- Persistent cookies: These are stored on your device for a specified period defined within the cookies. A persistent cookie activates each time you visit the website that created that particular cookie, allowing us to remember your preferences or actions across multiple sites. Persistent cookie can be manually deleted on your device.
Cookie based on domain:
- First-party cookies: These cookies are set by the web server of the visited page and share the same domain. This is local storage that Cognite sets itself, among other things, to ensure the website works and to provide the best possible user experience.
- Third-party cookies: These are set by a third party site separate from the site you are visiting. In addition, a website might potentially use external services, which also set their own cookies, known as third-party cookies.
Other similar technologies
Web beacons, also called pixel tags or tracking pixels, are tiny transparents images as small as 1x1 pixel in size that are embedded invisibly on web pages and emails, requiring a call (which provides device and visit information) to our servers for the pixel to be rendered in those web pages and emails. We use pixels to learn more about your interactions with email contents or web contents, such as whether you interacted with ads or posts. Web beacon can also enable us and third parties to place cookies on your browser.
We use web beacons together with cookies to help us understand how you interact with our websites and the emails we send you; to help us improve your browsing experience; to ensure that content is relevant to you; and to better manage our website and email content.
Social Media
Our sites include social media features, such as the Facebook “Like” button and widgets, the “share this” widget, or interactive mini programs that run on our site. These features may collect your IP address, which page you are visiting on our site, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third-party or hosted directly on our sites. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy statement of the company providing it. We may post Cognite’s information on social media sites. Your comments and other reactions will be visible if you respond.
Cookies and other technologies classification
The use of cookies and web beacons fall under the following four categories:
Strictly Necessary
We may use cookies, web beacons, or similar essential technologies to ensure the functionality of our sites, services, applications, and tools. These technologies enable you to access our website and platforms, utilize our features, and improve security. Without these cookies, our website and other platforms would not operate effectively.
Performance
These cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies gather information on your website usage to evaluate the performance of our website, applications, services, and tools. This includes analyzing user interactions, assessing message engagement, tracking item or link views, and refining website content, applications, services, or tools. Additionally, they assist in identifying irregular site behavior as part of our analytical practices to comprehend visitor engagement.
Functionality
These cookies allow us to remember the choices you make, offer you enhanced functionality and more personalized features when you interact with our sites, services, applications, or tools. This may involve recognizing your identity upon signing in, keeping track of your specific preferences, interests, or past items viewed to optimize content presentation. Advertising or Targeting Related
We may employ first-party and third-party cookies and web beacons to provide tailored content, including advertisements matching your interests, across our sites and/or third-party platforms. This involves utilizing technologies to gauge the relevance of delivered advertisements and content to you, including tracking whether you have interacted with an advertisement.
Protecting personal information
If necessary, we protect our cookies and similar technologies to ensure that only we and/or our authorized service providers can interpret them. We do this by assigning a unique identifier to the cookies, exclusively for our interpretation. None of your personal information is stored within our cookies or similar technologies. Any personal data collected and stored using these technologies is obtained through notice and consent, and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation. We obtain your consent by providing clear notice regarding the use of these technologies and offering you the option to disable them, as outlined below.
Managing cookies in your browser
Most browsers are set to automatically accept cookies, but you can change the settings to not accept cookies. When you visit our website, you will receive a notification informing you that we have placed cookies on your computer to facilitate website display to you. By continuing to use our website, additional cookies will be placed on your computer to enhance your browsing experience and help us understand how we can improve our services to you.
If you prefer not to have cookies on your computer or device, you can use the following options to opt out:
- Configure your browser settings to reject all cookies.
- allow only trusted sites to set cookies.
- accept cookies only from the current website you are visiting.
The same settings usually allow you to choose which websites you allow cookies from, including third parties associated with the websites. You can also request to be notified each time a new cookie is stored.
Remember that by deleting cookies, this may impact certain features on our website, affect your browsing experience and result in our website not functioning optimally. For example, you might need to log in again each time.
For guidance on managing and deleting cookies based on your browser type, we recommend visiting www.aboutcookies.org.
How can I see which cookies are stored in my browser?
In your browser settings, you will usually find an overview of all cookies stored, allowing you to delete the ones you don't want. Browsers typically store all cookies in a specific folder on the hard drive, so you can also examine the content in more detail.
There are also services designed specifically for users to keep track of cookies and other tracking mechanisms, such as www.ghostery.com or www.disconnect.me.
