John Markus is the CEO and a co-founder of Cognite. Before Cognite, he co-founded Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) in 1997, serving as CTO until 2001, and then as CEO thru Microsoft´s acquisition of FAST in 2008. He held the position of Corporate Vice President of Enterprise Search at Microsoft until 2009. In 2010, John Markus founded Cxense ASA, a software company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2014. John Markus holds a MSc from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH), and a PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he was awarded the Esso prize for best overall PhD in 1996/97.
Geir runs the R&D department, leading the development of Cognite Data Fusion. In 2011, Geir founded Snapsale, a machine learning classifieds startup. He served as CEO/CTO of Snapsale until Schibsted acquired the company in 2017. Before that, he spent three years working as a senior software engineer for Google in Canada. His team focused on machine learning for AdWords and AdSense, resulting in the Conversion Optimizer product. Geir holds an MSc in Computational Science from the University of Oslo.
Andrzej leads the commercialization efforts of Cognite and Cognite Data Fusion. He began his career with a move to Africa in 2006, where he spent three years working with humanitarian issues on behalf of the United Nations. In 2009, Andrzej joined McKinsey, where he focused on oil and gas and the power sector. Then he went to work for Scatec Solar, leading the company's growth strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa, as Vice President for Project Development and as Country Manager for the South African office. Andrzej holds an Msc in Industrial Economics and Technology Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
Stein is responsible for applications and solutions built on top of Cognite Data Fusion. Over the last 25 years, he has worked for a number of companies, including Scala Computer Television, Fast Search & Transfer, and Microsoft. His multi-faceted experience in the software industry has taken him from search, real-time systems, and 3D graphics to large-scale data and transaction systems and beyond. Prior to joining Cognite, Stein was Chief Architect at Cxense ASA, where he was responsible for maintaining product interoperability, synergy, and user experience across the company’s software portfolio. He holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
Francois runs Cognite's operation in North America, including offices in Houston and Austin, Texas. Previously, he managed Cognite’s overall marketing activities, including product marketing and the Cognite partner network, as Chief Marketing Officer. He spent the preceding eleven years with software company Vizrt, where he served as COO and CCO, responsible for all commercial and operational activities. Before that, Francois managed research projects on collective decision making and human-computer interface at the Airbus Group Corporate Research Center. He holds master’s degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences and his PhD from the Toulouse Computer Science Research Institute.
Ole Christian is responsible for Cognite’s product and production roadmap. Previously, he worked in McKinsey & Company for five years, focusing on digitalization within oil and gas, energy, and other asset heavy industries. His experience includes digital strategy support, as well as definition and implementation of advanced analytics solutions for clients in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. Ole Christian holds an MSc in Physics and Mathematics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and an MBA from INSEAD.
Elise has the overall responsibility for People and Organization in Cognite. She delivers HR operations and continuous development of the Cognite team. Elise has spent the last eleven years working with knowledge-intensive organizations, both in the private and public sector. Most recently, Elise worked with Innovation Norway, where she was responsible for organization and leadership development. Previously, she worked in Telenor Norway as Head of Strategic HR Development. Elise holds an Executive Master’s degree from Copenhagen Business School in Leadership and Innovation in Complex systems. She is an educated Kaospilot from the Academy in Århus and also holds a degree in Organizational Sociology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
Trygve oversees the day-to-day operation of Cognite. Before this, he served as CEO for Cenium, a global software provider for the Hospitality Industry, from 2011 to 2017. Trygve spent the preceding fifteen years in the U.S., first working with IFS, a global ERP provider, and then with FAST/Microsoft, where he focused on search technology. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Norwegian Business School (BI).
Erlend runs the finance and accounting functions at Cognite. Previously, he spent seven years with PwC, primarily focused on audit and advisory services for multinational companies engaged in process industry and retail. Erlend holds a Master in Auditing and Accounting from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and a Master of Business Administration from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU).
Petter focuses on scaling Cognite’s offering beyond Oil & Gas into other asset-intensive verticals. He also heads the company's strategy and M&A functions. Previously, as an Investment Manager with Aker ASA, Petter was Aker ASA’s representative in Cognite's founding team. Prior to that, he was a Junior Partner with McKinsey & Company, working primarily in the energy industry. Petter holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Economics and Technology Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
