Statnett collaborates with Cognite to speed up digitalization

Statnett has selected a visionary partner with a solid industrial data platform that will help Statnett achieve its ambitious, digital goals.

Statnett and Cognite signed an R&D-agreement that focuses on digitalizing Statnett’s grid.

Statnett is Norway’s state-owned enterprise responsible for owning, operating and constructing the national transmission grid. In Cognite, a fast-growing tech company headquartered in Norway, Statnett has selected a visionary partner with a solid industrial data platform that will help Statnett achieve its ambitious, digital goals. Statnett believes that a low-carbon future is an electrified future and unlocking value of data will play an important part in shaping it.

Deploying Cognite’s industrial data platform will enable Statnett to scale data analytics and machine learning across their operations by integrating seamlessly with existing infrastructure. This will increase security, efficiency and robustness of the power supply by using data to better monitor, maintain, and develop the infrastructure and at the same time be able to meet a future that is increasingly dynamic where usage and production frequently changes.

“Through our partnership with Cognite we will be able to structure and use our data more efficiently and be able to use this to take the much-needed step towards increased efficiency and reduced costs for our customers,” says Peer Olav Østli, EVP for IT, Statnett.

“We proudly support Statnett’s plans for digital transformation. Their ambitious goal will require instant, secure access to contextualized data, which the Cognite Data Platform is prepared to provide. Data Liberation Front, a movement currently building momentum across multiple heavy asset industries, is about liberating industrial data and has a big potential in the electric power industry,’’ says Dr. John Markus Lervik, CEO at Cognite AS.
